When did everything become such a competition?
How is it that we often find ourselves back kicking sand at someone in the playground sandbox?
Why is it always a tug-of-war?
Yikes. For the “Be Career Happy” coach this sounds like a very cynical and pessimistic view of the world of work. But bear with me.
As employees, we are part of a career clutch. It may be the group we call our team, a gender group or age group or even a division or overall organization. And when you’re in one career clutch, often you find yourself at odds with another.
“Are you with me or against me?” may be something you’ve heard quite often.
It’s a mindset that’s perpetuated by our society and culture and, to be honest, it’s not a very mindful one.
Now, without sounding too “Kumbaya-ish,” how can we drop the competition and enjoy the journey?
How can we push the two sandboxes together and build an even bigger castle together?
How can we disengage from a career clutch and engage in our careers?
These are some questions to be mindful of.
Personal Challenge: Take a moment to consider what needs to change in your career world in order to be more mindful of the journey.
