The Year of a Mindful Career: Is Happiness Overused?

My business is built on helping people Be Career Happy! The thing is we are now being told that this word is overused. Sure, there’s no magic door to happiness and it does take work to get there, so to say that buying a soda or a new outfit will make you happy is a stretch. I agree. But to ban the word as something overused? How sad.

Happiness is subjective. Still the word conjures images of being in a good space, feeling optimistic and radiating pleasure. This also may include having purpose and meaning in your life (I totally believe it does).

There are a lot of naysayers out there about the word happiness. I am sad that we have to make this a media launching pad. If we can’t use the word “happy” anymore without provoking an eye roll, then should we simply be satisfied with sadness?

Gosh, I hope not.

Everyone has an angle and that’s okay. Please know that happiness works for what it means to you. No justifications and no reason to feel that it’s being overused.

What’s next? No smiling?
