Social media isn’t for everyone. I get it. But odds are you’re probably using a Facebook account to share the kids’ pictures or find old high school friends. Whether we want to admit it or not, Facebook—along with other social media platforms—helps us share, search, learn and connect with a big, big world.
A new way that Facebook can be used is to help with your job search. Though LinkedIn has the reputation as the professional networking and career portal, Facebook is slowly growing as a job search tool. It’s interesting that much like connecting with friends for lunch, Facebook is another fun activity that supports your professional growth. If you’re thinking about changing careers now, or in the future, here’s a few tips on how to use Facebook in your job search.
Make Your Page Count. Building on the family photo album, get out and tweak your page in a way that also attracts employer’s interest. A strategic combination of playful posts and enlightened commentary can do more than win your “friends.” It can encourage a company to call you with an engaging career opportunity.
Open New Doors. There are oodles of “apps” designed to help you step through new Facebook doors and into exciting employer arenas. What you may not find in a typical Internet search is available via Facebook applications. New apps pop up every day that will connect you directly with employer talent recruitment professionals and groups that can enhance your career.
Learn What Employers Want. By following companies and recruiters you’ll get details on recruiting and networking events. You can also ask for introductions, communicate with company representatives, learn about corporate cultures and meet thought leaders. You can also become one, too. What you post, coupled with how you design your privacy settings, can educate the world on your strengths and personal brand.
Take Advantage of Referrals, Career Insights and Job Leads. If you want to learn more, and are interested in accessing job leads sent to me by recruiters, corporate recruiters, search firms and business partners, then “like” KBM Coaching & Consulting LLC Facebook page to gain access to these executive job openings and much, much more posted each week.
