There is a person who I work with (not a client) who loves to “pick my brain.” While I always enjoy sharing, I’m starting to wonder after exhausting weekly meetings if my brain is being picked clean? It’s interesting how this individual never wants to share but only to “extract.”
How would I run this training? How would I coach this client? How would I manage this conflict?
Whew, I’m getting tired just thinking about it.
I was raised to believe you should give and not ask for anything in return. But to be brutally honest, he’s starting to exhaust me.
Does this make me a bad person?
The day I felt this question settle on me is also the day a client expressed their concern about “being used” by a colleague. They felt drained that their coworker was always asking for help but was not willing to try first.
Hmmmm. Is she being used? Am I being used? Oh dear, am I using others?
How do we give but not get used? This is a tough balance that we all struggle with.
I find that it’s also an interest reflection. Where is the balance?
