As a business owner, I know what I need to do to build my business. Have I done it? Not entirely. There are things that I just haven’t gotten around to (laziness on my part). But there are things that just rub me the wrong way. I don’t like doing the same ol’ same ol’. So why should I have to? Why do I have to be the next Brian Tracy to get clients? No disrespect to Brian Tracy—I am not worthy. But to be honest, I built my business to offer a more personalized approach to helping my clients. I don’t intend to change that!
Even in my personal life, I get tired of having to conform. Saying the expected, doing the assumed, being what is now and just going along with the flow.
In my opinion, being different is special.
But it’s also very scary.
You make great sacrifices when you’re different or express your difference of opinion. You may not fit in, or be invited or be the best. But that’s okay. When you are different (which we all are) and authentically celebrate this difference, then true happiness arrives.
Let’s challenge one another to embrace our differences this year. Let’s look at ways that we can stand out and be happy with being the lone wolf. Yes, we may get plenty of flack from others, especially via social media (the easiest place to be “snarky” and run), but we will finally be free to celebrate who we really are.
While different is sometimes scary, it’s also super cool. And the louder people protest, the more we are affirmed that we are doing the right thing.
Personal Challenge: What makes you different? How can you start sharing and celebrating this difference more readily in your personal and professional life?
