They say it takes 21 days to solidify a new habit. For some it may take less and others a lot longer. I find that I ebb and flow and while some habits stick, others don’t, much to my chagrin. I’d like to say that I exercise over an hour a day. Sometimes it’s three hours while others it’s fifteen minutes. I’d like to say that I don’t eat sugar, but I will tear through a wall to get chocolate every day of the week. I’d like to tell you that I’m reading a book a day and writing every morning after a great meditation and yoga session, but let’s be real. Good habits are sometimes challenging to formulate.
I find that when I have a great experience around a good habit or gain positive results, it’s more likely to stick. So the environment is important.
I also understand that the following factors help us to formulate good habits:
- Good environment
- Understanding of benefits
- Accountability partner
- Positive intentions
- Similar times each day to practice or commit
- Support of friends and family
