“Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.” –Thich Nhat Hanh
When the founder of Mindfulness says to “kiss the Earth,” somehow it conjures up appreciation of a peaceful relationship with our surroundings. Just imagining this process seems somehow calming and uplifting.
But what about at work? Do you feel like kissing the Earth when you’re trudging through a busy and hectic day?
It might even seem ridiculous.
But what if we tried?
What if we try to walk softly and respectfully, with kindness and generosity? What would happen? How would we change?
I tried it. Just focusing on this image made me laugh and made me smile. And this started an epidemic. A mindfulness hum buzzed around, especially when I explained what I was trying to do.
For a moment, we all smiled and we all laughed.
Thich Nhat Hanh was right.
